Tony Corapi has worked in film and video production since 1978, upon graduation from the prestigious New York University Film & Television program. Following school, Tony spent several years at aTV commercial production company and was involved in all aspects of production, including bidding, location scouting, coordinating, and producing. After working with many well-known commercial directors and cinematographers he decided to pursue that end of the business, and spent the next 10 years in New York gaffing and lighting for many highly regarded directors and cameramen. It was during this time period that he also worked on a variety of feature film and TV mini-series. He was involved with projects that starred Bette Davis, Lucille Ball, Jodi Foster, Liza Minelli, and many others. Tony also worked with cinematographer Roger Deakins on the films, Sid & Nancy, Thunderheart, The Shawshank Redemption, Fargo, and Courage Under Fire.
Professional life then took a turn to San Francisco, whereTony worked with Robin Williams and long time friend and fellow NYU alumni Chris Columbus on the films Mrs. Doubtfire and Nine Months.
During the last five years,Tony has been the Director of Photography on many TV commercials for the Scripps Production Film Group and their clients HGTV, DIY, and The Food Network; plus many other production companies throughout the Southeast. Working hard with many talented people, Tony’s experience and talent contributed largely to the visual style of the networks and their promotional campaigns.
Always committed to filmmaking and young filmmakers he took time out to shoot a short narrative film for filmmaker Paul Harrill that went on to win the Short Film Category at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival.
The combination of energy, excellence, and experience continues to be the essence of Tony’s contribution on any production large or small.
